Why Most Pet Portraits Miss

Most pet portraits look like nobody you actually know. Straight-on stare, stiff shoulders, some blank studio backdrop that could belong to any dog on earth. They’re fine. They’re just not your dog.

Ours start the same way every piece here has started since day one: an original idea from the artist, built entirely from the vision and artistry of a pet lover herself, in a vintage style you won’t find as a filter or a print run somewhere. Our own custom-built studio software, made in-house and used only by Retro Reverence, places your pet into that scene, and then she takes over the old-fashioned way: matching markings and colors against your photo, retouching every detail by hand in Photoshop, and personally approving it before it leaves her desk. Not a stock silhouette. Yours, made by her.

That’s where the everyday stuff comes in. Your dog with the stick, the one that’s obviously, absurdly too big for the back door, and he’s bringing it in anyway, tail going, completely convinced this is a great idea. We capture that. Not “sit and stay.” That.

The Practical Part

Here’s the part with actual numbers in it. You send photos, we build the piece, and it is ready in about 3 business days, not weeks. Choose a high-res digital file, a fine art print or a canvas. The file is print-ready at 300 DPI and scales cleanly from a small desk frame up to something 24" × 30" over the couch.

If the first pass isn’t quite right (wrong angle on an ear, a color that’s off), you get two rounds of revisions built in. We’d rather fix it now than have it sit in your inbox.

The scene itself is an original idea from the artist, created before your pet is ever in the picture. Our own custom-built studio software places your pet into it. Then a designer matches every marking, retouches it by hand in Photoshop, and approves it before it’s sent to you. If it’s not right, it doesn’t get delivered.
